                               Reiki Retirement

After 22 years of teaching Reiki, I will be retiring from Reiki as of June 30, 2024. It has been my honor and privilege to work with hundreds of wonderful students through the years, and the lineage will carry on through the classes at Body Mind & Soul and through other Reiki Masters I have trained.

I will continue teaching upper level Reiki classes (Second Degree Reiki and Advanced Reiki) to current students only until June 30, 2024. For First Degree classes and private Reiki sessions, check out  Body Mind & Soul.

Please note that I will continue to offer past life regressions.

After completing First Degree, students are asked to wait at least three months before taking 2nd Degree training so that the Reiki energy can become well established in the system. Second Degree students receive two attunements, learn how to send Reiki across time and space, and receive Second Degree certification. Students may repeat Second Degree at no charge if there is space in the class. I teach this class 3 or 4 times a year, and occasionally teach it privately on request. 6 CEU's for massage therapists.

Advanced Reiki Training

Many Second Degree Reiki practitioners embrace Reiki as their spiritual path and wish to evolve still further. Advanced Reiki covers shadow work and mental clarity, and includes two attunements and another powerful symbol. This experience brings maturity to your Reiki practice and begins to direct the work toward planetary service. I teach this class once or twice a year.

Reiki Master Training

After taking Advanced Reiki, some students feel called to become Reiki Masters, i.e., to teach and give attunements. (In my tradition, all Reiki Masters are teachers.) These students embark on an apprenticeship lasting two to three years. During this time, the apprentice attends immersion classes, practices teaching in "live" classes, and participates in community leadership. The intention is learning through practice as well as personal evolution.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, gentle, yet surprisingly powerful healing technique that was rediscovered in the early 1900's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian minister from Kyoto, Japan. Challenged by his students to replicate the healings of Jesus, Dr. Usui spent many years researching scriptures in order to learn the secret of these healing practices.

He found the teachings he sought in the ancient Buddhist sutras. Dr. Usui named this healing method "Reiki", which means "universal life energy", and spent the rest of his life learning about this energy and training others to use it.

Hawayo Takata, a Hawaiian woman who was healed by Reiki, brought the practice to the United States. Mrs. Takata trained twenty-two Masters (teachers), who then passed the teachings on to their own students. Today there are thousands of Reiki practitioners all over the world.

Why Learn Reiki?

Although receiving Reiki from a practitioner is wonderful, it’s easy to learn how to give Reiki to yourself and others. With Reiki, you are a conduit for universal energy. This means you are not directing it, it simply flows through you and goes wherever it needs to be based on the inherent intelligence of the energy and the intention of the receiver. So you can't really do it wrong, though it's important to learn the protocol.

Although Reiki is best known as a healing modality, it's really a limitless energy! It can be used for manifestation and it can also be directed toward your own spiritual evolution.  In my view, the core of any legitimate spiritual practice is working on yourself. That's why we live by the Reiki Principles:

Different Reiki Traditions

There are many different traditions tracing back to Dr. Usui and many philosophies about how to teach and work with Reiki. Although some traditions combine First and Second Degree Reiki, my tradition requires a 3-month integration time between the classes. In this way, you have time to absorb the teachings through practice. Then you can decide if you wish to learn more.

Not every teacher fits every student. Sometimes people contact me wanting to know if I can give them more power. To me, that seems backwards! Although the Reiki attunements are indeed powerful, in my classes we focus on helping ourselves and others. When we sincerely work on ourselves, we grow into our power safely and steadily.

What about Other Healing Methods?

If you are interested in learning other healing modalities, Reiki is an excellent place to start! It’s very safe and you can’t really do it wrong, although it’s always important to learn the basics. I teach other (unadvertised) healing classes to students who have completed Second Degree Reiki and who are ready to branch out. These include Etheric Energy Work classes which are based on the universal Law of Correspondences. For students who have taken Advanced Reiki, I offer Advanced Reiki Applications classes and Chiron Apprenticeships, among others.

My Reiki Master Training and Qualifications

I was initiated as a Reiki Alliance Master in 2001 after a one-year apprenticeship with Carrlyn Clay of Phoenix, Arizona. In our lineage, all Masters are trained to teach and give attunements. Aspiring teachers commit to a period of apprenticeship with a fully initiated Master; this apprenticeship typically lasts from one to three years. During this time, the apprentice schedules, programs, and co-teaches classes with the Master in order to learn through practice as well as study and personal evolution.

Such rigorous requirements ensure that only serious students undertake the process. By the time of final initiation, a Reiki Alliance Master is fully trained in the practices and teachings of the tradition and is well-prepared to pass them on.

I started teaching Houston Reiki classes shortly after my initiation. Since then, I have taught hundreds of classes. It is my privilege to share the teachings with my students.
